Covellite’s hardness is rated at 1.5 to 2 on the Moh’s scale of mineral hardness. When heated, Covellite fuses easily and produces a blue colored flame. Covellite is named after the Italian mineralogist Nicolas Covelli, who first described the mineral collected from Mount Vesuvius, Italy in 1832. Covellite is also known as Covelline.
